Mega-dose C: The Chia Seed Method

Updated: Jan 16, 2021

I have to say that the chia seed method may be a game changer for many people who have difficulty high dosing vitamin C (ascorbic acid, AA). This is a supercharged, gut-healing protocol:

  1. Dissolve a tablespoon of AA in a little warm water until it's mostly dissolved.

  2. Add a tablespoon of chia seeds.

  3. Let it soak for 30 minutes or longer.

  4. Put a spoonful in a bit of cold water.

  5. Drink that chia and water mix. Drink it all down.

  6. Repeat drinking spoonsful in cold water through the day.

  7. You will have taken 15 g of AA easily. Increase this or make multiple batches each day until you feel bowel tolerance (BT) issues steadily through the day.

The chia gel and seeds seem to soak up the AA and then release it slowly as they travel in the gut. Some benefits I've seen and observed with others who are trying this:

  • BT goes up over days. I think that the ascorbate is absorbed more steadily and may be comparable to Lipo or IVC, which might explain the increase in BT. Just guessing, but it's interesting.

  • Chia seeds have their own digestive health benefits, and this AA chia combo works some kind of miracle in the gut. People trying to heal gut issues, leaky gut, etc. may find benefits. If you are already experimenting, chime in with a comment here or make your own post.

  • Chia seeds also have micronutrients which many people may need. The ascorbate would help with mineral transport and absorption.

  • Buy organic chia seeds. They usually are organic and they're cheap.

  • You might be able to live on chia seeds and AA alone (so I hear).

If you have tried this and observed benefits like increased BT, better elimination, gut healing, chime in here. I want to encourage others to try this. It may also be a way to deliver other nutrients steadily through the day if they're dissolved in the chia mixture with the AA.
